Sri Lanka 'Investor Day 2013' concludes


Jul 06, 2013 (SLBO) - Sri Lanka's stock market regulator - Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) organized ‘Investor Day’ was held on today to increase awareness and knowledge and allow the public to interact with market intermediaries.

Economic development minister Basil Rajapaksa opened the 'Investment Day 2013'.





The aim of the event was to provide knowledge and guidance on investing in the capital market and thereby create a shareholding democracy in the country according to the regulator. The SEC is of the view that the investing public should have the basic knowledge to invest in the capital market and is therefore committed to impart knowledge and awareness to existing and potential investors.



Among the participants were Stock Brokers, Unit Trusts, Margin Trading providers, Investment Managers and several listed companies such as premier blue chip John Keells Holdings PLC (JKH), Union Bank of Colombo (UBC), Laugfs Gas PLC (LGL) and Lanka Hospitals PLC (LHCL). Iconic Colombo 03 property 'Liberty Plaza' owned Colombo Land & Development Company (CLND) – in which company where the SEC Chairman Nalaka Godahewa also holds the Chairmanship – was also among the participants.










Investors also were able to witness the launch of two books on investing in the capital market. Entrance to the exhibition was free of charge.
