Jayantha Dharmadasa on Sri Lanka Cricket President's Chair for the Second Time


Apr 16, 2013 (SLBO) - Jayantha Dharmadasa was appointed as the President of Sri Lanka Cricket while Nishantha Ranatunga was appointed as the Secretary, the Sri Lanka Cricket stated recently.
Both Dharmadasa and Ranatunga were appointed to their posts uncontested.

Meanwhile, K. Mathivanan and Mohan de Silva were elected Vice Presidents of Sri Lanka Cricket while Nuski Mohamed was elected as the Treasurer, sources told, SLBO.

Earlier two cases were filed at the Colombo District Court requesting an injunction order against appointing Jayantha Dharmadasa as the President of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).

The cases were filed by the representatives of the Colombo and Panadura Sports Societies. The court granted time until April 22 for the relevant parties to put forward any objections to the case.

At the same time Thilanga Sumathipala's nomination for the Presidency was rejected by the Sports Ministry in line with the findings of a committee and upon consultation with the attorney general.

The nominations of other aspirants including incumbent Chairman Upali Dharmadasa (Younger Brother of Jayantha) and President of the Badureliya Cricket Association Sumith Perera were also rejected by the cricket board.

The elections of officials to Sri Lanka Cricket scheduled for March 30, was postponed to April 16 due to the controversy over the nomination.
