India to vote against Sri Lanka at the UNHRC

Feb 25, 2013 (SLBO) - Sri Lanka's so called 'Friendly Neighbour' - India - which has recently opened up its economy for billions of Western Investments pouring from United States and Europe - had decided to vote in support of a US-backed resolution against Sri Lanka proposed to be moved before the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), in Geneva next month, a media report said in India Times.

Union minister in the Indian Prime Minister's Office V. Narayansamy, had told reporters, that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has promised to a group of MPs from Tamil Nadu that the Indian government will vote against Sri Lanka at the upcoming UN resolutions forwarded against the Island nation.

"We called on the Prime Minister and insisted that he support the resolution against Sri Lanka on war crimes. He promised to do so," Narayanasamy had told reporters.

Making an unpredictable move at the last; moment India was one of the 24 countries that voted against Sri Lanka on human rights violations at the UNHRC meet in March last year .
