Feb 05, 2013 (SLBO) - Sri Lanka's premier home-grown food and beverage conglomerate Renuka Shaw Wallace PLC recently launched a completely new innovation to the popular soya market with its Captain Ready-to-Eat Soya Curry, in a can.

The new Captain Ready-to-Eat Soya Curry was developed by the Group's R&D team using various recipes to get the exact taste and profile preferred by Sri Lankan consumers. In accordance with the Group's stringent quality standards and using the best of spices and condiments sourced locally, the Captain Ready-to-Eat Soya Curry emulates the authenticity of traditional Sri Lankan cooking.

As opposed to the long process of making Soya curry from the raw nugget form, the 385g easy-open cans are available in Chicken, Curry, Cuttle Fish and Fish flavours. The product can be enjoyed straight out of the can or with various meals.

The products were unveiled at Renuka Shaw Wallace PLC's annual sales conference recently and showcased the innovativeness, convenience and capability this unique product offers consumers island wide.

"Soya consumption in Sri Lanka is ever popular due to the versatility and health benefits it offers" said Shilanth Boteju, Chief Operations Officer of Shaw Wallace. Armed with that confidence and our Group's manufacturing capability of being Sri Lanka's largest exporter of canned food products, coupled with our R&D team's efforts, our synergies have certainly helped bring out something very unique to the Sri Lankan market, and for the very first time", he added.

With convenience food taking a central place in today's busy lifestyles, Renuka Shaw Wallace expects the new Captain Ready-to-Eat Soya Curry to be well received by the consumers as it caters to a wide ranging clientele irrespective of their lifestyles. However the most beneficial would be families and housewives with a busy schedule, and students and workers who crave for an alternative for home cooked curry.

Adding further insights at the launch, Head of Sales Mahesh Vithanaratchi said, "This product is convenient, affordable and most importantly compatible with almost any type of main meal a person wishes to have, be it bread, string hoppers, rice, pittu or hoppers. All one has to do is open the can, heat the contents for a few seconds if desired and enjoy it with the meal of their choice. A single can serves 5-6 people and can be enjoyed by the entire family. Its shelf life of two years makes the product even more versatile".
